Mediation

A mediator is a person, uninvolved in a dispute, who assists parties to clarify issues, develop options and work towards a mutually beneficial resolution.  Mediation allows the parties to design their own outcome to the dispute.  Mediation is voluntary and usually confidential so the information the mediator learns during the process is not shared with others.  Mediators do not make decisions for the people or organizations involved, instead mediators assist those involved to explore and develop their own ideas for resolution.

Mediation may take place in one session or in multiple sessions.  It may take place with all of the parties together, or with the mediator having time alone with each party or with a combination of types of sessions.  The process is especialy helpful in situations where the parties have an on-going relationship and would lke to find a positive solution as well as define a process for resolving future conflicts.

We have worked with individuals and groups to mediate many kinds of disputes:

  • civil litigation
  • business
  • employment and workplace
  • probate
  • family & estate matters
  • divorce, custody, separation and post-divorce
  • real estate, condominium and border disputes
  • tort and personal injury claims
  • court-related discovery disputes
  • municipal cases
  • community issues
  • elder care and guardianships
  • open adoptions
